NYC seeks to ban the use of food stamps for sodas and other sugary drinks. The concern, obviously, is the high rate of obesity among the poor. Many unhealthy food choices would remain eligible for food stamps, however.

Is it appropriate for government to play such an active role in the food and drink choices of those on food stamps?

I think so, but I'd like to hear what others think.
