Excuse me, but which oil field do you own property on? Oh you're saying that a drilling operation hundreds of miles away from where you live is "drilling on your land" and thus you want your cut (for doing nothing).
As I just got finished telling you, all state land is owned by the residents of Alaska. I don't own any personal private property with oil under it, but I am a citizen of Alaska and therefore am co-owner of the state and all its lands.
Which means I am leasing land to the oil companies to drill there and extract oil. Property ownership has its perks.
By extension, then, do I get a cut as well, since you and I are both Americans, and the drilling takes place on American soil?
Nope. You're not Alaskan, you have no stake in state-owned property. Your "extension" is a non-sequitor -- the US does not own state land, period.
I'm of European descent, so does it then follow that all Europeans get a cut too since we're both from the same stock?
And by the way, some Republicans are very much arguing that there ought not be an extension to the payroll tax cut. They're floating lines of argument such as, "it was a failed stimulus" and "zomg no money for the eldery."
So? There are some Democrats that don't agree with Obama's plan. What's your point?
Republicans in general want to continue the tax cut, just like the Democrats do. Why are the Democrats refusing to compromise and instead painting the Republicans as being the obstructionists?
Oh an, on both sides, this isn't dirty partisan mud-slinging politics; this is politics. All posturing aside, the president has the preferable plan.
And yet he and his party steadfastly refuse to compromise to the majority party. Even when both sides want the same damn thing.
It's dirty partisan politics to lie about your opponents when the reality is that the Democrats are the ones refusing to compromise, refusing to budge, and then go whining to the media that the Republicans are "obstructionists".
