Excuse me, but which oil field do you own property on? Oh you're saying that a drilling operation hundreds of miles away from where you live is "drilling on your land" and thus you want your cut (for doing nothing). By extension, then, do I get a cut as well, since you and I are both Americans, and the drilling takes place on American soil?
In reality, I have no problem with the Alaska oil checks (but I don't pretend it isn't socialism). What I have a problem is Alaska taking it's oil money and distributing it out to its citizens while at the same time sucking as hard on the federal teat as it can to fund its infrastructure projects. How about taking your oil money and using that to fund such projects, instead of reaching into my wallet?
And by the way, some Republicans are very much arguing that there ought not be an extension to the payroll tax cut. They're floating lines of argument such as, "it was a failed stimulus" and "zomg no money for the eldery."
Oh an, on both sides, this isn't dirty partisan mud-slinging politics; this is politics. All posturing aside, the president has the preferable plan.
