I once encountered a spyware infection (not my computer, a co-worker's computer back when I worked help desk) that was kind of similar - I could find the executable, but for whatever reason I got "permission denied" when trying to delete it, despite being the local and domain administrator.

So I opened the file in Notepad, did a Select All, and then hit the Delete key. Save, close, reboot computer - spyware dead!
