The government could not articulate any limiting factors in their arguments to the SCOTUS. Which means that as far as they are concerned, they can now effectively mandate anything they fucking want! This is a huge blow to the concept of a limited federal government, as outlined in the Constitution, as it grants nigh-unlimited power to what it supposed to be a limited government!
