For starters, you've completely turned a blind eye to the most blatant power-grab aspect: the sudden and inexplicable reversal of decades of precedent of support for organizations like FFA and 4-H, to be replaced by a new government program. Why? What purpose is served by no longer supporting non-profit organizations and instead adding all new layers of bureaucracy to an already over-bloated government??
That has nothing to do with child labor laws. And considering that a full three-quarters of my post was devoted to that part and to the implications thereof, I just can't grok how you could ignore it and assert that a (admittedly very poorly put) single sentence is my "main argument".
Second, you're right that the press release makes specific mention of an exemption for children working on their parents' farm. (And, while it wasn't my intention, my opening sentence is indeed very misleading, and I apologize for that.) However, once again you ignore implications -- for example, these new rules could prohibit youths from participating in FFA or 4-H projects if they happen to coincide with prohibited farm work!
Again, nothing to do with child labor laws. Just kids wanting to do something fun, educational, and physical -- isn't that better than letting them loaf around indoors all day playing FarmVille?
