Sound like much ado about nothing? Yeah, it probably is, but on the other hand it's ∞% more physical activity than my sedentary life has had in long, long, loooooooooooong time!
Have taken up post-lunch and -workday walks around the neighborhood. Which is to say, this is day 2, the whole thing having started after work yesterday, and thus I've done all of one of each walk. Anyway, I have a just-more-than-a-mile (1.14 mi according to RunKeeper) route that I do after lunch, and a slightly-longer 1.75 mi route (again, RunKeeper) that I do after the work day is over. Take about 25 and 38 minutes, respectively -- which is why I don't do the longer route after lunch (not enough time to eat and do that walk).
As my body starts to adjust to, y'know, moving, and these relatively-short walks no longer leave me totally pooped, we'll start to add extra laps to the post-workday walk (still don't have the time to lengthen the lunchtime walk, unless I skip lunch -- probably not advisable!).
At the same time, a friend told me about MyFitnessPal, a neat little calorie-counting app for Android (and iOS?) that, among other things, lets you scan the bar code of foods you eat to enter them into your diary automatically. Now, I know what some of you are thinking -- you know how much I poo-poo counting calories, especially when you start giving yourself "credits" to your caloric intake for exercise -- but I'm not using this as a means to achieve a diet or any other fitness goals. Rather, it's just a convenient way to make me pay better attention to what I'm eating.
My only complaint is that, while Fitocracy can import your RunKeeper workouts, you still have to manually log in and record the activity. That sucks.
Well, that and how sore my body is after such a trivial amount of exercise. That just makes me feel like such a lard ass. :-(
Also, I have a hot spot (i.e. precursor to a blister) on the ball of my left foot, and my left ankle (weakened from having been sprained multiple times) starts to hurt about halfway through the shorter route; if that doesn't improve as my body adjusts to, y'know, moving, I'm going to have to start taping it up before our walks.
