That's exactly why useless feel-good legislation like the now-expired federal "assault weapons" ban can even pass in the first place. It picked out a slew of entirely cosmetic features -- features that happen to be common on the Scary Black Rifles that simply look reminiscent of military weapons -- and banned guns based on that entirely useless and meaningless measure, and it passed only because so many didn't even understand what was being banned!
That's why I try so hard to educate -- so much of this nation's gun policy, and a distressingly central focus of the gun-grabbers' agenda, is based entirely on ignorance [or, as Ms. Brady so eloquently informed us, on outright lies]. That's no way to build policy, period.
That is, they've been so easy to obtain, relatively speaking, so by this point, there are too many out there to suddenly start taking them away and expecting gun crimes to go down.
Who gives a flying fuck about "gun crime"? [Language used to make a point.]
Is a person murdered with a gun any more dead than one murdered with a hammer? (Fun Fact: More people are murdered with hammers than with the so-called "assault weapons" we so desperately need to ban, allegedly in the name of public safety!)
Is a person any less dead if they were stabbed to death rather than shot to death?
"Gun crime" is an entirely meaningless statistic that serves one and only one purpose: To produce the illusion that guns have any relationship whatsoever to crime rates of any description.
Off topic a bit: one of my favorite first dates was a guy taking me to the range in Fairbanks. I outshot him like crazy. I attribute it to beginners luck, and possibly him being jittery about being with a girl (very socially awkward--we never saw each other again after that, and I don't even remember his name at this point). But it was an epic first date, and I would be sad if things like that were made illegal (if it genuinely drastically reduced crime/increased safety, it's a sacrifice I'd be willing to make--but I'm not convinced that it would). I've gone to gun ranges a few times, and always enjoyed myself--safely.
Well, I was going to say come visit me and I'll take you to the range and let you shoot off a few rounds so you can see what it's all about, but you've already done that. :-P Still, I'll let the offer stand: You come visit me and I'll let you shoot my guns.
Heck, if anyone from 4K wants to come visit me, I'll take you to the gun range and we'll shoot off a few rounds!
