Previous to my kfhd, I had a China-brand generic android tablet. Last month I bought my girlfriend an 8'9 kfhd and was impressed with the screen quality. I almost bought a [private] 7 for myself but the kfhd has much better speakers, a fabulous screen. Sadly, the Amazon flavor of android, and the Amazon marketplace leave lots to be desired. The kfhd has the same basic layout at the first gen Kindle Fire, but from what I understand, the first gen Kindle Fire is easier to root and customize.

I don't have the urge to root just yet, because performance is pretty good with the Amazon launcher and ui. Sideloading and using alternative app stores like 1mobile, getjar, aptoide, have kept me pretty happy.

The kfhd is much better hardware then the first gen hardware. Since I use my tablet for lots of YouTube and Netflix, having good speakers and a great screen are important to me.
