Safe mode, try to recover; failing that, install disc, try to recover; failing that, re-install.
I'll add that it might be wise to leave the XP/mechanical drive unplugged during this process, to make it easier on you -- sometimes the Windows install disc will pick up your drives in a different order than you're used to, and you might not realize that you're trying to "repair" XP instead of Win7.
