The first computer you ever built

My first was back around the year 2000. It was an AMD Athlon 1GHz machine--hitting that 1GHz barrier was very cool at the time. It was a dual boot, Windows and Linux (the latter required a boot disk). I was quite proud of my accomplishment, although it really wasn't (and still isn't) too difficult to assemble your own computer.

Since then I have not bought a pre-built machine (laptops excepted, of course). Once you custom-build your first desktop computer, it doesn't really make sense to buy one off the shelf anymore.

What was your first?
