I was also raised Catholic but left the church for a number of reasons. The anti-gay stance was a small part of why I grew dissatisfied with the Catholic faith.
Now I go to a Reform Jewish synagogue with my Jewish husband. Reform Judaism is pro gay-rights (our Rabbi in particular is passionate about them). They believe that when God's law or religious law is unjust, it's our job to push back, the way Abraham and Moses did. There is one gay couple in our synagogue who was married by our Rabbi (gay marriage is legal here in Canada).
If you're looking for a religion that is similar to Catholicism but more gay friendly, the Episcopalian church in the US and Anglican church in Canada are.
