Americans of all stripes are generally very positive toward Canada and the UK. The whole Falklands thing, which we're really not involved with at all, seems inflated well beyond its significance to US-UK relations, in this thread.
But it's not so much about surprise as it is feeling like people saw this thread as an opportunity to poke the US in the eye using dodgy facts. "It's funny you think you're a superpower" etc.
