but unlike many other theocracies with capital punishment, i'm not aware of any crime which requires capital punishment to be meted out. other countries may commute sentences to life in prison or whatever, but that's after the verdict.
while i take issue with Four's response of it being a state issue and therefore not under the purview of his OP, i also take issue with comparing the capital punishment in the US to executions under, say, sharia law.
(although, personal pet peeve - unarmed burglary here gets you a trial, a lawyer, a judge, a jury, and anything from probation to a few years in jail.....unless the homeowner gets scared, in which case it can be immediately punished by death without any of the above....go figure, huh?)
