I would not be able to describe what people in Canada think of the US without being anti-American, because most of what we think is negative. And the idea that this would be surprising... well, that's seen as part of the problem. The idea that Americans are so out of touch with what's going on in the rest of the world, they don't even know what others think of them.
Not trying to be overly negative here. My personal feeling on the US is that Canadians should worry a lot less about what the US is doing and focus more on getting our own house in order. I'm just... surprised that you're surprised.
