So, it's come up numerous times over the years, and quite a bit recently, and seems no one doubts its validity: The American "left" is still on the "right" compared to European politics (and meanwhile the American right is just further right).
I don't mean to say that I doubt it, just that I don't understand. What makes the American left European right? What are some specific examples that highlight why the American left isn't in line with the European left?
And on a related note, I understand that this is the social axis; is there a similar disconnect on the economic left/right when comparing American politics to European politics?
