The gist of the legislation is to create a path to citizenship for those who entered the US illegally as minors. They would have to either attend college or join the military to be eligible.
For me, this is a slam dunk. Anyone who came here as minors with their parents bear no moral guilt for the crime of illegal border crossing. Anyone who wants to prove their worth by getting an education or defending this country is the sort of person we want to grant citizenship to. With our aging population and domestic reproduction hovering only around the replacement rate, we need young, educated, motivated people in our economy.
And what is the alternative? Force these people to continue living in the [private]s, unable to achieve their full potential?
Yet, many self-describes conservatives are strongly against the Dream Act. "No amnesty for illegals!" *sigh*
