I think men are becoming increasingly regarded as sex symbols. Still not to nearly the extent women are, but it's happening more and more. I was talking to some friends, two other girls and two guys, and we were amused to discover that all three of us girls had been to see male strippers, but neither of the guys had ever been to see female strippers.
As to some of the responses below, as to women being expected to dress up and wear makeup wheras men do not have to, that's changing too with this whole "meterosexual" trend. Men are being expected to spend a lot of time grooming and what not.
