The region functionality is cool. You have a big region map divided into smaller sections, and you can built a city in each of those. You can connect those cities and, for example, have one be primarily residential with the residents commuting over to the next city. Another nice thing is that you can place zones on sloping land and have it develop. Transportation options are better and the traffic model is much better. If you have the Rush Hour expansion pack, you can actually see commuting paths that your sim residents take. It's really smart about having sim residents find their way to their jobs, transfering from bus stops to subway stations and whatnot. There are a lot of little things that make it the most realistic simulation yet of the series.
