eh, there's always political backlash when you piss off an industry with a dogmatic following. gun rights nuts don't really care what the measure is or how it relates to safety and freedom and all that - they go crazy because the NRA, funded by the gun industry, has convinced them that any gun legislation - sane or not - means they're gonna have their guns taken away.
it's a great system for the manufacturers. it's not about the second amendment anymore - it's just about gun manufacturers making shitloads of money.
