It sounds like any other sad story of poor people in America making a choice to face the challenge of rising above their circumstances or drowning in them.
What I would say to the girl..I'm not sure. Utilize whatever benefits are out there and available to every American and that they are aplenty. I don't really agree with your statement "give her the opportunities that this country used to stand for". This country is made up of people who still believe in those ideals and we still stand for the same things. I'm so sick of hearing such a negative attitude about America from all over the place and especially from people who enjoy the freedoms America provides. This is a damn fine country, even under George W. Bush, and if people don't like this country they honestly do not have to live here. We ain't Cuba, we can gtfo whenever we want.
