My understanding, which may be flawed, is that the amps don't matter so long as the adapter is rated for more amps than the computer needs to draw. The amperage rating of the adapter is a maximum. If you try to draw more than the rated amperage, it shuts off (and maybe burns out.) Shouldn't damage your laptop, though, unless the voltage is wrong.
