Google tried to strike the exact same Yahoo deal, and the regulators were making a whole lot of noise about getting involved, so much so that Google just scratched the whole thing before it went official in any way.

Really not sure where the regulators were hoping to stand - they were making noise about the Number 1 and Number 2 search engines merging being anti-competitive, but the fact is that Yahoo's trying to get out of the search engine business anyway - Number 2 throws in the towel, Number 1 buys up the cast-offs, that's pretty damned regular in the business world!!
