Windows Boot ERROR!

I know exactly what the problem is. I know the easy, very undesirable solution. What I don't know is the tough solution. Any takers?

I shut my computer down like normal last night. It's an Acer Aspire One (AOA-150) Netbook running Windows XP. I boot it up this morning and it gives me the BSOD once it freezes for 2 seconds during the windows logo loading screen. OK, so let's try safe mode. Fail. Safe mode lists the system files as they are loading and it freezes and goes to the BSOD at the exact same point every time, right after '...\system32\Drivers\Mup.sys' is listed. Clearly, Windows shit itself and something is missing or corrupted. As it is a netbook, I cannot use a CD to recover. The OEM-loaded recovery is the easy solution, but that wipes my precious precious files. Taking it in to a tech to charge me $1-300 to recover my files is not ideal, especially given the back-to-school frenzy and no doubt week-long delay I will encounter. I will be VERY upset if I have to wipe it. I haven't backed up personal files since JUNE. I spent 2 months in Europe and all the pictures are ONLY on this baby (save for 100 web-resized ones on my blog).

PLEASE. PLEASE. Anybody??
