up the bum and all, huh? What is that for, anyway? I know guys (usually once they're at least 40+ but normally at 50+) have to get the prostate exam up the butt, but seeing as how we don't have prostates.. why??
I've been to 3 different gynos, and never had them do that or mention doing that. My last one (the one who also did the OB stuff for me) said that he was supposed to give the STD tests to any female under 25, but he was going to allow me to opt out since I was married. In the past, they've all just given them to me without asking whether I wanted them. My OB/GYN also checked out my skin (for cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions I think), and the breast exam, but then right to the between-the-legs stuff.
I think your doc did some of the general stuff too because some women may only see their OB/GYN during the year.. they may be the first one to catch something else, I guess. But up the bum?? *shudders* I'm not looking forward to my next girlie exam if they're all starting to do that. Good lord, they're bad enough as it is (I tend to bleed for a few days afterward--ick).

Huh.. so according to [private]'s link, they only do the rectal exam (assuming that they don't need a stool sample) if they can't feel the ovaries and uterus from the front. I've always only had them put 2 fingers in and wiggle them around while pressing on my lower belly, and they seemed to feel it. Thank god. =o
