Okay, so I went in to get a normal pap smear and get on birth control. No biggie, right? I usually only see about 15 minutes' worth of a doctor for this kind of appointment. Which is why I blew it off that my appointment confirmation phone call said to allow an hour for my appointment (I mean, this is the same phone call that told me to fast prior to my pap smear...I forgot to ask if that was an accidental message or not, but I forgot breakfast anyway and so did fast).
But I went in, and she started off with general health...how am I doing, yadda yadda. Went into detailed medical history (including her teaching me a few things about my family history, lmao...this is the doctor's office I've been with since my first girlie exam, and my mom helped me complete my medical history at that time). Talked about the kidney stone I just got over.
She suggested I get a flu shot and a TB test. A bit surprised that this came up in my girlie appointment, I said sure (it's free for me, after all). She also thought it would be wise to do blood and urine tests for HIV, pregnancy, anemia, and all sorts of other things.
And then into the girlie stuff. She spent something like 30 minutes with me before she even had me change into the gown!! And then she spent 10 minutes doing a general exam and a breast exam before she even got between my legs. She gave me the good old pap smear, as well as STI tests. She did the thing where she stuffed her fingers in me and felt around to make sure my bladder and stuff felt normally. And then she did something I've never had a gyno, nay, ANY doctor do before...she felt around in my bum! I mean, geeze, talk about thorough...
So after an hour with her, I got a prescription for Neuvaring and one for Gardasil (the HPV vaccine...they don't stock it at the office, so she suggested I first try at UAF to see if I can't get it there, and then go to the pharmacy and pick it up if UAF won't do it, and I can go back to Chest Medicine and have them actually do the shot administering), and information about light boxes. She noticed my big scar on my calf and asked what it was from, and I told her it was self-inflicted from when I was depressed, and that I had other scars too. She asked if I still had issues with that, and I said not to the same extreme, but I do feel unmotivated and listless and such still. She suggested trying the UAF psych clinic (it's grad students who are getting their practice by giving either free or highly reduced price counseling) and getting a light box.
I've never ever had such a thorough doctor's appointment. Wow. So, I have to go back in 3 days to get my TB test read, and I have to go back in about a week to discuss the results of the STD tests and stuff. Exciting.
