and more about better working conditions. For example last time we had a teacher's strike here, it wasn't about salary, it was about restricting the number of children in the class to a number that it is reasonable for one teacher to manage. A construction union might ask for better training, better quality protective gear, shorter shifts (because accident rates raise dramatically at the end of long shifts), etc.. There's a lot more to it than asking for more money.
