One argument against compulsory voting

is that a certain portion of the population will not take the time to educate themselves and form informed opinions. We may want them to, but some people won't. If you make them vote, they'll be casting votes out of ignorance or "gut feeling", or they'll be easily swayed by simple slogans leading up to the vote. Don't you think?

Without compulsory voting, the people who actually show up to vote are probably better informed than those who don't vote. So perhaps they'll arrive at better decisions?

I actually respect anyone who says, "I'm not going to vote because I know that I'm not informed enough on this."
