Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and Secretary of State under Bush, Colin Powell endorsed President Obama a few days ago. Powell said his choice was decided by the respective candidates' foreign policy views, as expressed in the last debate.
Of course on cue, conservatives and partisans rushed to say "he's endorsing Obama because he's black." No one would be surprised to hear this BS from the likes of Limbaugh or the far-right blogs, however Romney campaign chair John Sununu actually joined in, making the accusation.
That prompted retired Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, who had served as Powell's chief of staff, to say:
Wow. Dude doesn't mince words.

"My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people -- not all of them, but most of them -- who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My Party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White house has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything do with the color of his skin, and that's despicable."
Wow. Dude doesn't mince words.
