Untitled Chapter
She looked down at her hands, seeing them covered in blood, she looked up and away; into the distance. The sky was red, stained with the blood of the innocents who died this day. 'More senseless death,' she thought as she wandered through the remains that littered the once green field.
"Your Grace!" she heard from behind her and to the left, she kept walking, uncaring of her pursuers. She stopped as she came to the body of a young man, his chest split by and ax that remained embedded in his young body.
"He can't be more than fifteen! Such Hatred. I cannot understand this loss of innocence!" She wiped at the tears that fell from her compassionate amber eyes, uncaring that she smeared blood across her cheeks.
"Your Grace! Wait!" An armored man caught up with her, moving to look at her face. He drew in a breath of shock as he took in her blood stained clothes and red-rimmed eyes. "Tell me you are unharmed, My Lady!" Fear thickened his light accent.
She looked toward the sun that slowly rose toward it's highest point. "Physically I am unharmed, but my heart is broken over this senseless massacre!" She turned to look at the soldier once more, kneeling to be beside the young man. "This is not right, my friend." She gently closed the eyes of the boy and let the tears fall.
Fearful of her safety, he knelt and clasped her arm lightly to pull her to her feet. "Please, Your Grace, we must return to the Palace. You are not safe here."
She shook off his grip as she stood. "Be sure that every man on this field is given a proper burial. I mean Everyone!" She narrowed her eyes at him to get her point across.
"Of course, my lady. It shall be as you wish." He bowed from the waist as she strode toward the waiting horses. He caught up with her quickly and assisted her as she mounted her horse.
"Mount Up, Tersh, The Imperial Guard is waiting for her grace at the City Gates." General Marshall barked at his colleague.
Everett Tersh made sure that his Empress was safely seated before mounting his horse and leading the small party toward the Imperial City.
"Cody, leave Everett alone. He was humoring me." Arai glanced at her second guardsman before turning her gaze toward the road ahead.
"Of course, My lady." Cody Marshall smiled at the reprimand. 'Hopefully this massacre hasn't broken her young spirit.'
'Oh such death.' Arai thought as the tears left tracks through the watery blood on her pale face.
