I know we have a few writers out there...how do you guys go about character creation?
I usually set up a piece of paper and go briefly over how they look, their personality, and their name (in whatever order it happens to hit me), then let it spiral as I "meet" them in my head, jotting down extra details as I go ("has extreme/violent aversion to bare feet"), and I'll often write out short stories that double as building a past (i.e. writing about what happened with a character a year before the actual story even begins) and fleshing out their personality (i.e. discovering that they loved bagels with cream cheese until an unfortunate instance involving walking in on parents while eating a bagel with cream cheese).
From there, I let the story itself flesh the characters out.
What about you guys?
