Today I wrote a song about a topic that's close to my heart. I wrote it all in one sitting, over two hours. No melody yet, just the lyrics. Enjoy!
Subjection
(C) 2016 James Landau
Those at top
Play curfew cop
And make wind about protection
While those below
Feel angst as they grow
And they cut due to dejection
And the solution for this angst? What but years of subjection?
Faculty don't think it right
So they're quick to cite
For a public display of affection
They saw this decay
In a different kind of way
In a president named Bill's erection
If you guide they won't turn out that way, need guidance and subjection
If you scream in class
They better fix it fast
With some pills or an injection
As always, laws
Ignore the cause
Of your four-letter interjections
And they'll kidnap you deep in the night, all thanks to old subjection
Why can't they be the way you were?
Why can't they be so mature
As to see they're immature?
Why can't they defer
To subjection?
Naïve and callow,
Arrogant and shallow
They like video games and confection
How can they lose sleep
Over topics that are deep
When they're fans of One Direction?
We'd better keep the Eloi dumb, prolonging their subjection
They look at the state
Of those who shoot up their classmates
And they say, "They need direction"
Those righteous fools
Day, "Kids want rules"
But it's only a case of projection
Projection often wins the day and leaves us with subjection
They think you go to the oast
You'll crash into a lamppost
With an airbag's full ejection
'Gainst drunk driving laws you'll rage
But obey the drinking age
It falls apart on closer inspection
Place a fetter one or two or three years past subjection
Why can't they be the way you were?
Why can't they be so mature
As to see they're immature?
Why can't they defer
To subjection?
Take a free path
And you'll undergo their wrath
Meet with plenty of objections
Youth is original sin
But the effect of Flynn
Means we're closer to perfection
And those who were less smart at that age now have your subjection
They know darn well
That you're going to rebel
But they say there's a special connection
A kind of rapport
Wherein you trust your parents more
So they won't let you vote in elections
When Boomers were below their roof, were they against subjection?
You're only sixteen
Not a voice to be seen
When it's time for tax collection
So your hard-earned dough
Will only go
To a system of correction
You'll be the next to be arrested, feds control subjection
Why can't they be the way you were?
Why can't they be so mature
As to see they're immature?
Why can't they defer
To subjection?
You never know
When a cop will go
By a busy intersection
With force that's brute
He has the risk to shoot
Because you have a dark complexion
They say this is the land of the free, but what about subjection?
I don't think that word, "consent",
Meant what you thought it meant
When you hope for a C-section
Want to keep your spleen
Or abort? But you're too green!
Though birth yields the risk of infection
"It's your body" was a lie, we need to save subjection
We discuss it through clichés
Policy comes from surveys
Often based on self-selection
The Establishment's got
To terminate thought
Things will crash with real reflection
My house, my rules, your butt, my spankings, submit to subjection
They say every nation
Will pass norms through generations
And there's minimal defection
But values like hate
And "You've got to be straight"
Are subject to our rejection
How many generations more till we jettison subjection?
Why can't they be the way you were?
Why can't they be so mature
As to see they're immature?
Why can't they defer
To subjection?
Why can't they be the way you were?
Why can't they be so mature
As to see they're immature?
Why can't they defer
To subjection?
