[private], you'll laugh as hard as I did when you see this movie. And you should - it's a very practical approach the vampires took in this movie, attacking the world's northern-most city which sees around 100ish days of no sun (contrary to the movie's/graphic novel's assertion of 30 days). Very nice vacation spot for a vampire!
Those of you not from Alaska will probably not laugh once - this is a movie with absolutely no sense of humor, and most of the flaws in it would be totally unknown to anyone not from Alaska.
Some things to remember when/if y'all see this movie:
1) Barrow doesn't see the sun for around 3 and a half months, much longer than 30 days.
2) People do not migrate south for this "dark month", although it is true that a lot of people have trouble coping with the lack of sunlight (it's called Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder, or SAD).
3) The population of Barrow is much nearer 6,000, and is predominantly Native (you'll see 4 or 5 token Natives near the beginning of the movie; after that, nothing but whiteys).
4) There is not a single sheriff anywhere in Alaska. Not one. They just don't exist. Never have. We have police, and we have State Troopers.
5) The sun does not set nor rise in the north (you see the last sunset and the first sunrise out over the ocean, which is north of Barrow).
6) Virtually every building in this state has an "arctic entryway" - essentially two doors you have to go through - to preserve heat. This is especially true in a town like Barrow that has such high winds - you certainly don't want that -30F wind blowing through your living room every time someone opens the door!
7) Virtually every building in Barrow is on stilts (they got that part right).
8) -10F is warm for that time of year. Laugh your head off when the sheriff implies otherwise.
9) Planes can land in the dark. Ever heard of "red eye" flights?
10) No one in this state says "negative 10" or such - we all say "10 below".
11) Since when did the word "utilidor" come to be used to refer to a large building??
There's many more gaffs in this movie, too many to list, but again most of the world will never know that. Despite that, however, even those of us who spent most of the movie laughing at the mistakes did enjoy it, and I highly recommend that everyone go see it.
