I tried minimize spoilers here, but if you want to be sure not to encounter any, stop reading. =)
The first third of the book was very suspenseful, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. In the middle third, the pace slowed way down. Many a page is devoted to the character fitting into small town life and doing information gathering, and this was annoyingly drawn out. The final third picked back up as the urgency increased, with the assassination looming.
Personally, I didn't find the ending wholly satisfying. But King's choices were the right ones, I think. It felt a bit rushed in the final chapters, though--which was weird given how slow the middle part was. And one character gets an angelic makeover that strains belief.
Early in the book, you're introduced to the "yellow card man." He eventually gets more explanation in the end, and it's important, but the details are not fleshed out enough. That was a bit annoying, too.
All that said, it was a good read. I have no doubt it will be made into a movie. It would work very well in that format.
