it's insane. like the first beta version that came out a while ago, except with more maps/sounds/graphics/etc. the interface hasn't been improved at all. it now displays the menu, but the only function that doesn't freeze the game is "quit."
so, again, you've got to make yourself a config file with all your settings and load that, then go to the console and load a map.
needless to say, i found that part crazy fun even though i was swearing at the gamma settings the whole time. but it's awesome.
the game is beautiful. the monsters are awesome. the weapons are solid. the atmosphere is amazing. the coolest part, though, is that there's a /nin/ directory in the sounds - which includes most of the sounds. so apparently they didn't ditch all of trent's stuff when he left....they just kept what he'd done so far.
there's a lot more to this demo that i haven't had time to play with yet (considering i've got finals =), such as a DoomEd.exe file - that's gotta be interesting. i've only played with a couple of the levels, but they're a nice size. the compression needs a bit of tweaking (the first time an imp jumps you, it goes to about 3 fps, but after that whenever you see an imp it's cool, for instance) and the level load time is high - and i've got a damn fast computer. for comparison, average level load time for a good-sized level is roughly 4x the load time of a Warcraft III map with all the settings jacked up to their limit.
the file is roughly 616MB. i wouldn't recommend it for anyone just interested in playing the game a bit - the game experience to technical fiddling and bugs ratio is tiny. but i'm excited as all hell.
