Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start of the summer season at the Jersey shore. Above is a time-lapse video showing the reconstruction of the Seaside Heights boardwalk in preparation for re-opening. Everything isn't 100% rebuilt... not by a long-shot. But the shore is open for business, nevertheless.
Tourism is a $40 billion industry in NJ and is responsible for over 500,000 jobs. The shore is the main attraction, and countless local businesses are depending on tourists to come this year. I really hope that people will return and support these businesses this summer.
President Obama and Governor Christie will be touring the rebuilding efforts this Tuesday.
