Hostess announced today that they shutting down for good, and selling off all their assets, citing a baker's union strike that they simply could not weather.
In all fairness, there's apparently a lengthy history between the company and the union, with a lot of bad blood there, so it's hardly any wonder the union didn't believe the company's threats that failing to resolve the dispute quickly would force a shut down, complete liquidation, and the loss of some 18,000 jobs.
That said, though, I can't help but feel more than a little bitter that they've killed my Twinkies! :-(
This is yet another iconic moment from my childhood that my children will never understand...
