Thousands of people's livelihoods are going to be destroyed. Since a 1/3rd of the seafood consumed in the nation comes from that region, the price of seafood will skyrocket. And for those of you thinking buying more seafood will help--wrong. The jobbers, retail middlemen and the supermarkets will jack the prices up, very little (if at all) of the increase in profit will go back to the shrimper and fishermen. The local economies affected by this spill are going to be left in tatters.
If anyone thinks that the cleanup is going to go very well, go look up the Exxon Valdez and Prince William Sound, AK. 20 years later and there's still oil on that coast and in the water.
