massive backlash from the tanners out there. Is that really a big voting bloc?

Michael Bloomberg hiked the NYC tax on cigs from $0.08/pack to $1.50/pack--a 1,875 percent increase! Smokers complained, yet Bloomberg suffered no political setback as a result.

I don't see a tax on tanning as any different than tax on cigs and alcohol, and comparatively, 10% ain't bad.
