She said the school district canceled the prom not in a move of homophobia, but to try to protect these girls--this is an area where open homosexuality can get you beaten or killed. My friend's point is that the girls would have almost certainly been beaten or killed if they'd gone to this prom, and that the school was doing the only thing it really could to protect them.
I still don't think that's the way to handle it, but it is a fascinating perspective I hadn't even thought about.
Anyone else got a thought on that?
