is that I don't like the majority of people who openly carry guns.
Massive generalization: the people I would trust with guns don't see a point in carrying them because they feel safe and/or they trust officials.
I know at least a half a dozen people who carry guns (yay Alaska!). Only one of those people is someone I unequivocally trust to be totally responsible (oddly, the same one I've done gun play with in bed...aaaaaanyway). Not to say the rest are people I think will suddenly pull out the gun and start shooting people, but they're irresponsible...I had one friend point a loaded gun *at me*...as a joke. I did NOT laugh, I told him to never do that again, and I walked away, my eyes tearing up and my entire body shaking (emotions are kinda high when you have a loaded gun pointed at you, even if you know the other person would never intentionally fire the gun). I haven't spoken to him since (not actively avoiding him, but I haven't gone out of my way to speak to him and he hasn't contacted me).
I think too many people don't realize that accidents happen. One of my high school friends shot himself in the head when he was cleaning his gun...he was exceedingly responsible, and apparently just fucked up that one time...and that's all it takes. Fucking up once. Guns aren't exactly forgiving.
All that said, I don't have a problem with guns themselves, and I don't have a problem with the idea of people carrying--and I do think it's perfectly fine for businesses to allow guns where they are legally allowed. I prefer that people carry openly, absolutely. I like being able to know if someone has a gun, for sure. I just wish we could cure the stupidity, or at least that the stupid people would only hurt themselves. I don't want to get hurt or killed because someone's stupid or irresponsible.
