Posted by Kromey at 12:28am Mar 25 '09Just weeks after the Louisiana governor lambasted Obama's plan to fund volcano monitoring, Alaska's Mount Redoubt has erupted 6 times (this article only mentions the 5 Sunday night/Monday morning; it erupted a sixth time Monday night).
This volcano has erupted previously, with the ash cloud nearly causing a passing 747 to crash. So far, winds are keeping the ash away from Anchorage, although smaller communities such as Talkeetna are seeing some of the finer particles away. The FAA is of course monitoring the ash cloud and keeping planes safe - they learned after that Duth 747 nearly went down!
Looks like Governor Jindal will need to eat his words now.
