This is just about the ONLY place in Moraga open after about 9pm. (I originally said 'the only' thing, but then I remembered Longs is open late too, but don't go there, Longs is Bor-ring) That's right folks, pretty much the entire town closes down after dark which means kids are supposed to find alternative places to hang out. As lame as it sounds, Safeway just happens to be one of those places.
Normally I don't really like this store, it's crowded and overpriced. But after dark Safeway transforms into this really hip and fun place to hang out. Ok, that's not true, but it's open 24 hours which is pretty sexy.
In high school I did a lot of hanging out/causing trouble here. We would run around stealing bin candy, reading (outloud) the sex scenes of dirty books, and chasing each other around the store with sausages in hand...you know, the usual..see how awesome Moraga is?
They also have a really eclectic group of checkers working here...a.k.a. crazy people. One time I was there with my Mom and this creepy young checker guy was like: "So what's your daughter going to be for Halloween? (in a creepy voice)"...first of all I am standing right there, and second of all I am 23, and third of all it was November!! Another time I was there 2 white guys were behind us in line, they must have been at least 7 feet tall, they were enormous...anyway our checker woman looks them up and down and says to them: "You look like you speak Spanish." What?
This Safeway is also a really great place to go when you are super mega and in need of a refreshing snack. I recommend the jalapeo cheese bread and those butter cookies with the chocolate lumps on top...so yxmmy.
One time I was here with friends and we created the "perfect" snack. No joke, this snack was the bomb. It was so good we contemplated throwing down for a patent so we could start marketing this snack to the world. We were going to be rich. Seriously. So if you want a good time...i.e. a stomach ache (well worth it) get the "perfect" mega snack here: ONE bag CHEESE Munchies, ONE container Vanilla Fun-Fetti frosting, and ONE box of Teddy Grahams (Remember Dunk-a-Roos?). Salty and Sweet...dip the Teddy Grahams into the frosting, and switch to Munchies when you are in need of a salty change, continue until you are full/sick. This snack will blow your mind...especially while mega.
So if you are ever in Moraga after 9pm and you need something to do, go to Safeway...the fun you can have here is unlimited! 5 stars for being ALMOST the only thing open late, and another 5 for having the "Ingredients for Life" and the ingredients for the perfect snack and a sexy time.
