It started out like this:
well, kinda. First I had to bake the cakes. Then I had to make the frosting. Then I had to "fill and frost" the cakes and make it the right shape. Which brought me to that point.
That was all fine and dandy. Then I tried to make black fondant and all that accomplished was making a BIG mess and turning my hands purple-ish pink.
So I did a redo. Made gray fondant, and SECONDLY covered the rectangle and the circle SEPARATELY! So, it looked like this:
Now previously I made all flowers (red roses and white daisies). Those all dried. Oh, and little butterflies. But before I got to placing those on the cake I had to add the little buttons and decorations and stuff to the camera. A little flash, some random nondescript buttons.
Then I took a bag of frosting and started piping grass around the camera. My mom asked "why?" and my answer was "I dunno, why are there FLOWERS on the camera?"... so, moving on.... I strategically placed butterflies and a flower on the seams on the lens.
Seams, what seams?
Then put the rest all over. And I had a big empty spot so I took a piece of kinda old fondant and make a rock... well, yeah, I vaguely shaped it into a ball and painted it black = ROCK! And I stuck some flowers in it. And my mom asked "What kind of flowers grow out of rocks?" to which I responded "AWESOME ones!" In my defense, it happens, really. I swear.
Oh, and I was baffled as to what to do with the lens itself, like, the inside "glass" part... so I took icing, thinned it out, filled it in. It worked!
Then I painted the butterflies. When they were already on the cake. which was tricky. Oh, and I piped "Happy 60th Birthday Ginny" on it. My piping sucked. I was rushing. But anyway, this is the finished product.
And my dad asked "whats that white stuff" and I said "powdered sugar" and he said "can you get it off" and I said.... "no."
because to do that, I'd have to get it wet. And then it would have to dry. And that was NOT happening. And all in all we remember:
ITS A CAKE.
And its yummy.
And thats all :)
