What she said might be the provincial law in Ontario, but to vote in federal elections you can give:
1) One piece of government issued photo id with your name and address OR
2) One piece of acceptable id (there is a whole list of acceptable ones, see link below) plus proof of address OR
3) Take an oath saying you are who you say you are, and have another person (with proper id) take an oath on your behalf.
I think what makes it different from some of the voter id laws proposed in the US is it's more flexible so as to disenfranchise as few people as possible. So if you don't have a driver's license or provincial id card, you can bring your bank card and bank statement. And if you have no id at all but you have someone to vouch for you, you can take an oath.
