Even modern low-energy laptops take a lot more power to operate than today's phones. More power requires heftier batteries, which are engineering marvels that they're as compact and as light as they are.
Unfortunately, because of the higher output demands on laptop batteries, they simply cannot last as long as phone batteries.
That said, though, it does seem that laptop batteries' life spans are a lot shorter than they really should be, and replacement batteries a helluva lot more expensive than they should be...
Compare your laptop's battery's voltage and amperage output with your phone's battery's. Then figure how many phone batteries it would take to match that, and how much that would weigh. Compare that to what your laptop battery actually weighs...
