I've been using ConvertXtoDVD by VSO for years. I even bought version 4 after being so impressed with it. It was simple, and did the task of taking video (anything you throw at it) and putting it onto disk to play in standalone DVD players. I will always love CXD.
However, I was reading about DXVA in Windows 7 and found a free video converter, called Freemake Video Converter that uses this technology. If you have a CUDA enabled NVIDIA card, it can use that as well.
In short, it's the fastest video converter I've ever used and I've used/tested quite a few. It's got built-in burning for DVD and even blu-ray. It's dead simple to use (which bothers me—there's no "advanced" panel of option), and has a ton of features. It's highly recommended for anyone needing a feature packed but simple to use converter.
Upon installation, it'll ask you to install a Microsoft Bing toolbar; just uncheck that during the install process. Or can you uninstall it later through the control panel. That's the only "catch".
They have some other software too, stuff like a YouTube video downloader, and an audio converter—all if it seems really good as well.
