All in all, I feel safe jailbreaking but I definitely don't recommend it for newbs. If you're too much of a newb to jailbreak and know what you're doing with the repositories, terminal and SSH, then chances are you wouldn't care about jailbreaking either way.
The Google/HTC [private] One Android phone, has some impressive stats on paper, but in the end it's still an HTC phone. Like one of the app devs for iPhone said, Apple has honed the iPhone's OS and Hardware to as sharp as a ninja's [private].
