What was worse for me was that I started self-teaching CSS under Internet Explorer's "quirks mode"--which I actually think has a more intuitive box model: the width of an element includes the padding, whereas in standard CSS it doesn't. But then I had to readjust to the standard.
In fact most of 4thKingdom still ran in quirks mode on IE until I made the change last week.
