My four year old Casio EX-S600 is not working right anymore. The shutter is stuck open, which causes every picture to be over-exposed. So I figured it's time to get something new.
I love love love the S600. It took such great pictures for such a little camera. So I wanted to get something very similar.
I checked out some reviews of the current Casio line-up. The S7 and S12 stood out to me. So when I went to Radio Shack and saw an S8, I figured it's got to be similar to the S7 at least. (the numbers, as it turns out, make no sense... the S12 is a year old; the S7 was just released.. the S8 bears no resemblence to either.)
After taking the S8 home I realize it is bare-bones, feature-wise. And it doesn't take very good pictures at all... the color is off and the flash washes out people's faces. I took it back to the store.
So I ended up ordering the S12 from Amazon. Here is the official site. It was only $150 with free shipping. 12 megapixels, 3x zoom, 720P video, and just over a half-inch thick. I love these tiny cameras that you can just put in your pocket.
I didn't go for the new S7, which seems to have all the same features of the S12, because there are virtually no reviews of the S7 whereas the S12 was highly rated by Consumer Reports. Also, the S7 is thicker for some reason.
I'll report back on the camera when I get it.
